SELLING WITH CONFIDENCE

So many of us have similar stories. We stumbled across the soap making craft and soon found ourselves utterly addicted, totally enthralled with our new-found craft. Over time it unexpectedly dawns on us that we should begin to sell our creations and it is at that point, that we suddenly feel like a deer caught in the headlights! Pam Toomim / Lianne Staten, Beaute and the Bath

BIO

The story of this mother/daughter team began in 2015 when Lianne found an interesting hobby. During the winter holidays Lianne decided to craft her own bath products as gifts. As someone with sensitive skin she wanted to make something for herself, friends and families which  would not contain the harsh chemicals that triggered allergic reactions. Lianne's daughter-in-law also experienced allergies to scents and wanted to provide an option for her that would allow her to enjoy a relaxing bath. Due to the feedback received from the gifts, Lianne decided to start a small business making bath products and needed help in her endeavor.

Lianne asked Pam to assist her in early 2016 and since she was already crafting products for her family such as pit paste, toothpaste and body butters, she happily agreed. Pam and her children all have sensitive skin. Pam personally had an adverse reaction to store purchased soap and lotions and was eager to make something she was confident in using and felt good about selling.

HAVING FUN WITH SOAP CLAY

For the session Lianne will walk everyone through creating a batch of soap clay. Once the small batch has been created I will demonstrate how to use the soap clay with molds and with free style sculpting using regular poly clay tools.

A Power Point presentation will be created with plenty of pictures and a small sample so everyone can get a feel for the dough. I must say a little soap clay goes a long way. We will provide a recipe with the sample and on a Power Point slide.

Joanne Watkins, Nature's Potion Handmade Soaps

BIO

Aloha, my soapmaking started 5 years ago while living on Maui. On the island, soapmaking was more of learning an invaluable skill, just like growing much of our food was. It wasn’t until we moved to our small farm in the Texas Hill country, that I found an amazing community of soapmakers and my passion for soap design grew. I studied art in college but didn’t pursue that path (as we all know life happens). Handmade soap making gave me the outlet for my creative side and from that Nature’s Potion Handmade Soaps was created, out of love for artisan soaps.

SOAP ART - Make Your Own Swirled Soap!

The focus of this workshop will be the techniques used to achieve beautiful swirls in your soaps.

We will discuss:

· Slow to trace recipes

· Emulsification and light trace for fluid batter

· Soaping temperatures, how this effects your creative time

· Pouring your batter

· Tools, ie: dividers, chopsticks, hanger tool etc.

Then we get to the fun stuff, swirling the soap!
